Here was the last brook crossing before the summit. Instead of taking the slide, Marc plan was to hike the Brutus bushwhack trial to avoid the possible icy and snowy slide.

The Brutus bushwhack trail was unofficially named after Brutus Rooney the Newfoundland. According to Marc, when Kevin and Brutus Rooney did their winter 48 list, Kevin whacked out this trail so that Brutus could hike up the summit without taking the risk on the slide. Brutus was the last canine to receive the winter 48 award, the committee stopped recognizing the canine winter achievement to discourage dogs hiking in winter.
